This is the unisex year. Pantone has selected two colors in combination as the “color of the year” for 2016. The two colors in combination are Rose Quartz and Serenity.
According to Pantone, “we are experiencing a gender blur as it relates to fashion which has in turn impacted color trend throughout all other areas of design.” This is the first time Pantone has introduced two shades as the color of the year (and I hope the last). Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, describes the colors this season as transformative and transporting. “Colors this season transport us to a happier, sunnier place where we feel free to express a wittier version of our real selves,” said Eiseman. “With our culture still surrounded by so much uncertainty, we are continuing to yearn for those softer shades that offer a sense of calm and relaxation.”
So this spring you will see less differences in men’s and women’s clothing color choices. The complete 2016 color palette is more Easter egg pastel looking than the bold one-color choices of the past.
