The Best of Super Bowl 50’s Game Day Commercials

The Super Bowl is almost upon us and the game day commercials are being teased and released in droves. But which commercials will make the cut to be named the best of the best? Amperage’s partners have a few ideas. Come back on Monday to cast your vote for which Partner Pick represents the best Super Bowl commercial and you’ll be entered into a drawing to win a free DVRT package for your company.

So, where do this year’s commercials rank before the game? Here are the 10 best commercials of Super Bowl 50, so far (The Guardian):

  1. Adobe: “Wager”

This worried executive has a lot riding on the big game, but it’s not the score. Adobe continues its campaign to know what your advertising is doing.

  1. Honda: “Somebody to Love”

Honda broke out singing sheep this year. Top off singing farm animals with Queen karaoke and you’ve got a catchy spot.

  1. Heinz Tomato Ketchup: “Wiener Stampede”

Super Bowl commercials have a soft spot for puppies, so it’s no surprise Heinz’s adorable stampede of dachshunds have sprinted into the public’s hearts.

  1. Shock Top: “Unfiltered Talk”

Witty banter and creative ad-libbing provide an easy-to-enjoy, on-brand message from Shock Top.

  1. Budweiser: “Simply Put”

When it comes to common sense, who better to express the responsibility we all have to not drive drunk than Helen Mirren? Maybe it’s the accent, but her admonishment to those who drive drunk comes off as classy rather than preachy.

  1. Kia: “Beige Socks”

Christopher Walken is firmly against beige decisions, which he explains with perfectly timed delivery. And, he has a sock puppet. Need we say more?

  1. Rocket Mortgages: “What We Were Thinking”

Ever wonder about the process behind a company’s commercial? Rocket Mortgages gives you an inside look while proving mortgages aren’t rocket science.

  1. Avocados From Mexico: “Avocados in Space”

Aliens from across the galaxy come to wonder at the human race and some of our greatest accomplishments. If you like sci-fi and guacamole, the Avocados From Mexico commercial is definitely worth a viewing.

  1. Apartments.com: “Movin’ On Up”

Jeff Goldblum sings and plays piano as he’s hoisted up to the top of an apartment building to join Thomas Jefferson and Lil’ Wayne for a barbeque. Well played, Apartments.com.

  1. T-Mobile: “Restricted Bling”

Drake does what he can to please his fans, and T-Mobile’s rival networks. Even if it means butchering his own song.

Of course, there is more to enjoy on game day than these 10 selections. Catch up with all of the national advertisers for Super Bowl 50 here.

From that day forward Mark discovered a love of the big idea that moves the needle. After 12 years at KWWL, Mark became a business owner as a co-founder of ME&V — rebranded as AMPERAGE in 2015. After 25 years of leading creative teams in video production, graphic design, PR, writing and web development, Mark transitioned out of ownership in 2021. Today he serves in an employee role as special projects consultant. When he found that many nonprofits struggled with complex branding puzzles, he wrote the book, “NonProfit-NonMarketing .” He also wrote a novel called “Reenactment.” Mark is an active blogger OneMinuteMarketer® with nearly 1,000 readers each week on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter. Mark is considered by some a Civil War expert (and that explains his novel). Mark also served as an adjunct professor in the business and in the communications departments at Wartburg College. Mark is a graduate of the University of Iowa and is currently vice president of the University of Iowa Journalism and Mass Communications Advisory Board. Mark is married to state Sen. Liz Mathis, and the two love to travel, even when it means being trapped by a volcano in the Czech Republic for three weeks.
