Pope Francis is a marketing genius. While businesses around the US are still grappling with determining ROI on social media, the Pope is making headlines and becoming a viral sensation. Just recently, Pope Francis launched his Instagram account and within 12 hours had more than 1 million followers. His first post was, “Pray for me” in nine languages. It made an instant connection with targeted audiences, and that leads to engagement.
The Vatican media chief says the Church can’t ignore social media. Archbishop Cladio Celli, head of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, is quoted as saying, “In our church, we are always fishing inside the aquarium. And we forget that most fish are outside the aquarium.”
