ACLU of Iowa Encouraging Compassion Through Storytelling

When the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Iowa was awarded a grant to build empathy for transgender children and their families, they turned to AMPERAGE.

Utilizing the power of storytelling, AMPERAGE presented Iowan transgender kids and their families doing all the normal things families do. By emphasizing the discovery, pain and joy these families experienced, AMPERAGE illustrated how alike we all are to build empathy and compassion.

Targeted at Iowans 50 years and older who might recognize but not support transgender rights, the multi-channel media campaign ran on broadcast television, over-the-top (OTT) and YouTube. The positive results in the first 15 days of the ACLU campaign “Let Trans Kids Thrive” include:

  • More than 99% full video viewings on OTT and 68% full video viewings on YouTube
  • Impressions of about 441,000 across channels
