This summer, Instagram topped more than 300 million monthly users. It lags behind other social sharing sites, I believe, because it was first thought of as just a fun photo-sharing site.
Now, it is a sophisticated outlet for creative. You can still post photos of friends and family, but the bar has been raised for photography and creativity. As a photo- and video-sharing site, it is one of the best and simplest to use. My favorite account to follow is National Geographic (natgeo).
Advertisers are finding value in posting to this site. Yet the bar has been raised for creativity as well: McDonald’s and Dunkin’ Donuts are top accounts that are good to follow. You’ll quickly notice that nice product photos do not cut it on Instagram. Creativity needs to rule the day.
Until recently, Instagram has been ad free, but by the end of this year, the Instagram feed will be open to advertisers. So start snapping and posting. It’s instant.
